AboutHello. I'm Martina and I love helping people, travelling and exploring unknown.
In July 2017 I'm going to Cambodia for 4 weeks, with a team from my school and some other schools in Belfast, to help out in local communities, do humanitarian and environmental work and explore this beautiful country. It will be an unforgettable experience before I go to the university. But straight to the point: the expedition costs £3,710 (yeah I know, it's a lot). I'm doing my best to achieve this goal: I have two jobs now, I used my savings, I do handmade jewellery sales and bake sales, got some donations from my amazing family and friends. I also had a very successful coffee morning in August, I did a sponsored abseil in September and I'm planning to do much more, including a cookery class fundraiser in Forestside Cookery School! |
Habitat restoration & sustainable housing (beng pae)Cambodia was once rich in wildlife but due to deforestation and hunting, the ecosystem is in real danger. I’ll play an important role in helping to reforest damaged parts of this landscape to encourage some of the world’s most endangered wildlife to return. I’ll also help us build homes for needy families in the village.
What will I do?

School classroom & accommodation building (beng mealea)Cambodia remains one of the poorest countries in the world. Seasonal food shortages and lack of employment opportunities leave rural young people very vulnerable to continued and increasing poverty. I’ll help by developing a new classroom at the school to tackle overcrowding, as well as working on a teachers accommodation block.

Why is it NOT A CHARITY
I will be doing project work on my expedition and you will have a “hands-on” approach, but I am NOT travelling with, or for, the charity. I will be travelling through the business because they have to provide me with flights, insurance and ATOL protection, which Camps International cannot do as a charity.
HOWEVER, when I travel with Camps International on my expedition, approximately 40% of the money is spent investing in local economies, communities, wildlife and environmental conservation.
